Sefirah

(Redirected from Sefirot)
Sefirah (סְפִירָה) (plural: sefirot, סְפִירוֹת) is a channel of Divine energy or life-force. It is via the sefirot that God interacts with creation; they may thus be considered His attributes.
There are altogether 11 sefirot spoken of in Kabbalistic literature. Inasmuch as two of them, crown and knowledge are two dimensions of a single force, the tradition generally speaks of only ten sefirot. Each sefirah also possesses an inner motivating force, as discussed in Chassidut.
Along three axes
In the introduction of the Tikunei Zohar, Elijah the prophet reveals that the sefirot are fixed along three axes in the following form,
| crown | ||
| understanding | wisdom | |
| knowledge | ||
| might | loving-kindness | |
| beauty | ||
| acknowledgment | victory | |
| foundation | ||
| kingdom |
